What is yoga?

In the ancient language of Sanskrit from which the word yoga was born, yoga means union and it is built on the fundamental foundation of connection among all things. Created well over 5000 years ago, yoga was born out of a desire for greater personal freedom, health, long life and heightened self-understanding.

How can yoga benefit me?

A yoga practice will be different for each individual person. People come to yoga for many reasons, be it physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual, to name a few. All reasons are good reasons, and they may change over time as you continue your practice. 

Here are just a few ways that a regular yoga practice can benefit you:

As a first-time student, what do I need to buy?

Coda Yoga Studio is a fully stocked studio including yoga mats, straps, blocks, bolsters, blankets, towels, and hydrating refreshments. We do recommend, should you find you want to have a regular practice, that you purchase your own yoga mat as we often perspire during class and practice barefoot. 

We offer various packages of yoga classes to purchase for whatever suits you best. As a new student on your first visit to the studio, we recommend you try out our New Student Package which includes  10 days of unlimited yoga for $10!* Feel free to come to as many classes as you can in that time to see what class times and types fit you best! 

*New Student Package only valid for students who have never been to the studio. Pass is valid from the first day at the studio until the end of the 10th day. There are no pass extensions. The New Student Intro Pass cannot be shared. 

How to start?

Head over to the schedule page and click the "Sign Up" button next to whichever class you'd like to start with. This will take you to our online scheduler, MindBody, where you will create an account and can then purchase your pass and book your classes. 

I've never done yoga - which class should I try?

While we have multiple levels of classes at Coda Yoga, there are few great classes to start with, including our Chakra Flow, Alignment Flow, All Levels Flow and YinYang Flow. These classes offers an introduction to foundational seated and standing postures (Asanas), as well as traditional warm-ups and breathwork (Pranayama) at a slightly slower pace to ensure a safe and beneficial practice. 

What should I wear? 

Wear lightweight or layered clothing that is comfortable. Athletic wear that you can easily move in and isn't restrictive works well. No shoes or socks necessary, we practice barefoot for traction and tradition. We ask that you take off your shoes before entering onto the studio floor.
